Dr. Patel is an internationally recognized clinician and educator who pioneered transradial procedures.
Dr. Patel is Chairman and Chief Interventional Cardiologist at the Apex Heart Institute, Ahmedabad, India. He also is Professor and Head of Cardiology at the Medical College of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and Professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.
He is an internationally acclaimed interventional cardiologist well-known for his groundbreaking work in transradial interventions, robotic percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and distant telerobotic PCI. He has been a leading advocate of transradial procedures and has trained more than 5000 cardiologists from around the world, including cardiologists from USA and Europe.
Dr. Patel is an author of three books: Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics; Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics & Beyond; and Patel’s Atlas of Complications of Coronary Interventions: Plan-B. He is also an author of “White Paper” on transradial intervention technique for SCAI, and is Editor-in-Chief for www.transradialWORLD.com, the leading educational website for transradial procedures. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Invasive Cardiology .
He is a Fellow of the Cardiological Society of India; American College of Cardiology; European Society of Cardiology; and Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.
Dr. Patel has received numerous awards, including the Dr. Sharan Cardiology Excellence Award from the Indian Medical Association; the Dr. Roy Award from the President of India; and the Padma Shri Award also from the President of India – each of these awards recognizes his distinguished work in the field of cardiology.
