Tejas M. Patel, MD, DM, FCSI, FACC, FESC, FSCAI

Dr. Patel is an internationally recognized clinician and educator who pioneered transradial procedures.                                                               

Dr. Patel is Chairman and Chief Interventional Cardiologist at the Apex Heart Institute, Ahmedabad, India. He also is Professor and Head of Cardiology at the Medical College of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and Professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.

He is an internationally acclaimed interventional cardiologist well-known for his groundbreaking work in transradial interventions, robotic percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and distant telerobotic PCI. He has been a leading advocate of transradial procedures and has trained more than 5000 cardiologists from around the world, including cardiologists from USA and Europe.

Dr. Patel is an author of three books: Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics; Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics & Beyond; and Patel’s Atlas of Complications of Coronary Interventions: Plan-B.  He is also an author of “White Paper” on transradial intervention technique for SCAI, and is Editor-in-Chief for www.transradialWORLD.com, the leading educational website for transradial procedures.  He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Invasive Cardiology .

He is a Fellow of the Cardiological Society of India; American College of Cardiology;  European Society of Cardiology; and Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.

Dr. Patel has received numerous awards, including the Dr. Sharan Cardiology Excellence Award from the Indian Medical Association; the Dr. Roy Award from the President of India; and the Padma Shri Award also from the President of India – each of these awards recognizes his distinguished work in the field of cardiology.

 

Sunil V. Rao, MD, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Rao is an internationally known and highly-respected clinician and educator, who practices is North Carolina.                                                               

Dr. Rao is Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, and the Section Chief of Cardiology for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham.

At the national level, Dr. Rao serves as the Editor-in-Chief for Circulation Cardiovascular Interventions, which is the flagship of the American Heart Association’s Circulation family of journals.

He is also the Vice President of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

In addition, he serves on the program committees of the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) Scientific Sessions, the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference, and the SCAI Scientific Sessions. He was the chairman of the 2017 ACC-i2 Summit and was the chair of the SCAI 2019 Annual Scientific Session. Furthermore, Dr. Rao was the Editor-in-Chief of the ACC CathSAP 5 program and currently is the co-chair of the ACC Collaborative Management Pathway for Interventional Cardiology.

His primary research interests are focused on pharmacological and interventional therapies for acute coronary syndromes, as well as bleeding and blood transfusion complications among patients with ischemic heart disease. 

Dr. Rao has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers and is the co-Editor-in-Chief of the seminal textbook on transradial procedures titled “Best Practices for Transradial Approach in Diagnostic Angiography and Intervention.”
